AWU Video Calls for Resources Tax

The expected war over the Government’s proposed resources tax took a new turn with the release of the Australian Workers Union’s It’s time to put something back video. The video cites growing public support for the tax, claiming mining companies had enjoyed huge profits extracting Australia’s mineral resources.

The AWU video calls on the mining companies to put something back in the way of a resources tax to help fund Australia’s regional communities.

What do you think of the Rudd Government’s proposed resources tax? Fair and reasonable and time for the mining industry to “put something back” as claimed by the AWU? Or do you see it as a Government election year tax break that it “econonomic vandalism” as suggested by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott. Kalgoorlie Open Cut Gold Mine. Credit: Brian Voon Yee Yap
