By Rich Bowden:
Independent Senator Nick Xenophon has accused the country’s major parties of cowardice as they refused to back his bid for a Senate inquiry into the tax status of the Church of Scientology.
Senator Xenophon had called for the church’s status to be reviewed after he received reports from former members of the Australian branch of the controversial church of ill-treatment.
The independent senator vowed to continue his fight to expose the church and warned both PM Kevin Rudd and Leader of the Opposition Tony Abbott of the seriousness of the charges against the Church of Scientology.
According to the ABC:
“There is a certain cowardice in turning your backs on people who ask for help and ask just to be heard,” he said.
“I ask Kevin Rudd and [Opposition Leader] Tony Abbott, what is it about forced abortions you do not want to know about?
“What is it about false imprisonment that you don’t want to know about? I will not turn my backs on the victims of Scientology. I will not let this lie. This issue will not go away.”
Greens’ leader Bob Brown, said his party supported the motion describing the Church of Scientology as a “dangerous cult.”
“It’s about entrapment of people by sects who take over people’s lives, their livelihoods, their families,” he said.
Liberal Senator Eric Abetz warned such an inquiry would set a precedent for the chamber to act as a “de-facto criminal investigations bureau” which he said would impinge on peoples’ free will.
“In our free society, we actually allow people to hold silly, bizarre and even dangerous views,” he said.
Senator Xenophon said he would now move to pass a vote in the Senate to examine more specific allegations against the church.
Allegations against the church had also been aired on the ABC’s Four Corners program earlier in the week.

"The goal of the Department is to bring the government and hostile philosophies or societies into a state of complete compliance with the goals of Scientology. This is done by high level ability to control and in its absence by low level ability to overwhelm. Introvert such agencies. Control such agencies. Scientology is the only game on Earth where everybody wins."
— L. Ron Hubbard, HCO Policy Letter of 15 August 1960, "DEPT OF GOVT AFFAIRS
AN ORGANISATION THAT HAS DEPARTMENTS WITH THESE GOALS CAN HAVE ALOT OF INFLUENCE WHEN COMBINED WITH "FAIR GAME TACTICS2 (ABOVE) AND "BLACK DIANETICS (BELOW)
BLACK DIANETICS, 1 . hypnotism. (5109C17A) 2 . unscrupulous groups and individuals have been practicing a form a Black Dianetics on their fellow man for centuries. They have not called it that but the results have been and are the same. There are those who, to control, resort to narcotics, suggestion, gossip, slander—the thousands of overt and covert ways that can be classified as Black Dianetics. (Scn Jour Iss 3G)

Before people say things like 'Let the police/courts handle it', it should be known that Scientology has a wing of it's organization called OSA, 'Office of Special Affairs'. Their main job is to investigate and gather dirt on perceived 'enemies' of Scientology. This is known as 'Fair Game'.
Also, most court cases against Scientology usually end up being run into the ground, as Scientology employs a sizable army of well-paid lawyers and will use every means at their disposal to delay the case or get the plaintiff to drop the case altogether. And their methods often include (and are NOT limited to) harassment, threats, the spreading of false rumors, calling their work, home and neighbors in an attempt to smear them, get them fired and generally make their lives miserable.
The following is an excerpt from L. Ron Hubbard's own policy letter, which can be found at fairgamed.org Here's what he says about lawsuits.
"The purpose of a lawsuit is to harass and discourage rather than
to win…. Don't ever defend. Always attack. Find or manufacture
enough threat against them to cause them to sue for peace. Originate
a black PR campaign to destroy the person's repute and to discredit
them so thoroughly they will be ostracized…"
"The law can be used very easily to harass, and enough harassment on somebody who is simply on the thin edge anyway, will knowing that he is not authorized, will generally be sufficient to cause his professional decease. If possible, of course, ruin him utterly." — A Manual on the Dissemination of Material (1955) by L. Ron Hubbard.
In summary, Fair Game is black propaganda, mafia tactics in action. Fair Game is, the base policy for most of the organization's worse human rights abuses and crimes. In which anyone who stands against Scientology by their view… "May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed."
Now tell me.. does THAT sound like something that shouldn't be investigated?
